Philosophy & Methodology

Upholding the concepts of Reggio Emilia, this artistic and educational playwriting workshop is designed to support children in their exploration and expression of ideas and to provide them with access to the highest quality of professional creative experiences. To promote an ethos in which children have a significant voice in decisions. To improve the life chances of children by developing their confidence in themselves as creative learners, thinkers, and problem solvers. To hold to the view that all children are creative, competent, full of potential, and rich in resources and to enable them to develop an artful thinking palette.

Research conducted by 5x5x5=creativity confirms that when children collaborate in small groups, it allows for more significant learning to take place. The children can then re- evaluate their thinking and their theories through conversation, and collaboration in a safe, democratic environment. Time, space, and attention is given to supporting and developing children’s hypothesis and theories by leading them through warm-ups, ice-breakers, systematic games and exercises designed to develop their writing and performance skills.

This active workshop is specifically designed to challenge the more able and to help them to develop a love for the craft of writing through the process of absorption then immersion. The workshop will culminate with a stage performance of the piece that the group has created. The audience will consist of cast’s family members gathered in the Auditorium of United International College on Saturday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a red carpet after party following the performance to celebrate the creative efforts of the children immersed in the Summer Playwriting Workshop.
