Dr. Marcela Moyano

Director of Communications, United International College


Dr. Marcela Moyano is the director of Communications, Marketing and Media Relations of United International College (UIC). She also serves as faculty member of the Communications and Mass Media associate and bachelor programs of UIC. She is calso the executive producer of Radio Unilatina USA, which partners with community leaders to produce radio shows and podcasts that benefit local and international communities.

She is one of the members of the Board of Trustees of the United International College. She serves in the Community Advisory Board of WLRN. She has received grants and scholarships to participate in media conferences and also to conduct research about youth leadership and electronic media arts. Her research inquiry is how to use media as a vehicle for social change, and her latest research has been dedicated to documentary films and new media.

She was recognized as One of 15 Most Notable Art Professors of Miami in 2015 by the Career Project. She was selected by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan to participate in the Young Scholars program in 2013. She is also the co-producer-director of the award winning documentary film Blooming Hope: Harvesting Smiles in Port-de-Paix, Haiti (2010). Moyano served as a faculty member of the Institute for Communications, Entertainment and Media of St. Thomas University from 2006-2015.

Dr. Moyano was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She started her higher education studies of Mass Communication in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. She moved to South Florida in 1999 to continue her studies in the Communications field. She graduated from St. Thomas University earning a B.A. in Communication Arts and a Minor in English. She continued her studies at Barry University and earned an M.A. in Communication Arts with a specialization in Public Relations. In 2011, she graduated from her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with a cognate area in Electronic Media from St. Thomas University. Documentaries for Social Change: An Examination of Blooming Hope is the title of her dissertation.

Moyano lives in South Florida with her husband Fernando Rosero; her son, Nicolas, and her daughter, Cristina.
